In the bustling city of Arlington, a crisis of compassion unfolds as Arlington Animal Services grapples with an overabundance of furry friends looking for homes - the shelter's capacity has surged to a critical 130%, prompting a limited-time adoption fee reduction to a mere $5 for both cats and dogs, in a bid to free up much-needed space and ensure the well-being of its temporary residents.
Ashley Woolnough, the manager at Arlington Animal Services, stressed the urgency of the situation in a statement, per the City of Arlington, "Please visit our shelter today or contact us to learn more about how you can help. Every adoption, rescue, or foster placement directly contributes to saving a life," and without the collective effort of the community, the overpopulation problem the shelter faces, which already stretches their resources thin could spiral into a state of even more pressing concern.
The typical fees for adopting a pet at this shelter are $90 for cats and $100 for dogs; however, the current special—which includes vaccinations, spaying or neutering, a microchip, city licensing for Arlington residents, and necessary testing for diseases like heartworms in dogs or FIV/FELV in cats—offers the community a tangible way to make a difference with both a financial and compassionate incentive. The dedicated staff at Arlington Animal Services facilitates adoption, provides full support for fostering, and strongly encourages rescue organizations to step forward during this critical juncture.
