To shed light on a condition that affects millions, the Arlington Public Library has designated June as Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month. They have announced a series of events aimed at educating residents on Alzheimer's disease, a progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills.
The first of these events, as the Arlington Public Library shared in a recent post to their social media, is called "Alzheimer's Awareness - 10 Warning Signs," and is set to take place on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Lake Arlington Branch. This program is particularly critical as early detection can significantly improve the management of the disease.
Another event, titled "Alzheimer's Awareness - Dementia Conversations," will follow on June 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Southeast Branch. The library's initiatives come at an important time as the number of individuals living with Alzheimer's disease is projected to rise sharply in the coming years, with current estimates suggesting that 5.8 million Americans age 65 and older live with Alzheimer's.
