An armed suspect was fatally shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers on Tuesday night in the Harvard Heights neighborhood, following a "shots fired" call near South Ardmore Avenue and West 11th Street. KTLA reports that the incident occurred around 10 p.m. at an apartment complex, resulting in the death of a male adult suspect. The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers confronted the suspect, who was allegedly armed with a handgun. Officials have confirmed that a weapon and spent casings were found at the scene, which will be submitted as evidence in the ongoing investigation, according to a FOX LA statement. Details surrounding the suspect's actions before the confrontation with police have not been released, including whether the individual was under the influence during the incident.
No LAPD officers or community members were injured during the incident. As further inquiries commence, LAPD spokesperson Bruce Borihanh highlighted the importance of gathering all forms of evidence. "This is an ongoing incident where we still have to interview witnesses, the officers involved, and look at body-worn video and any surveillance video that's available to us," Borihanh told FOX LA.
