The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is once again about to be bathed in the glow of the Asian Lantern Festival, as the beloved summer spectacle kicks off July 5 through August 24. Cleveland.com reports that this year marks the eighth iteration of the event, which has seen over a million visitors since its inception in 2018.

With Thursday to Sunday evening sessions from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., festivalgoers can experience the zoo in a whole new light. Jacqueline Lapine Gerling, the zoo's Director of Communications, promises live acrobatic shows on the Fifth Third Bank Stage every hour and an array of Asian-inspired food options, as detailed in a release found on Cleveland19 News. Additionally, the festival will feature drive-thru nights for those preferring to view the displays from the comfort of their vehicles.

Among the new attractions this year is Dragons Landing, highlighted by a dramatic 100-foot-long 'ice and fire' dragon display. Kelly Manderfield, Cleveland Metroparks Chief Marketing Officer, told Cleveland.com, "Thanks to the incredible support of our community partners, we’re excited to unveil all-new lanterns and unforgettable experiences." Other installations will include a massive hydrangea and butterfly tree, as well as walk-through tunnels and themed areas dedicated to various wildlife and botanical scenes.

And for active enthusiasts, the Lantern 5K makes its return on July 22nd at 8:30 p.m., allowing runners and walkers to navigate a course trimmed with vibrant lantern displays. Pre-registration for the event is $30, which includes a race t-shirt, medal, post-race refreshments, and admission to the festival post-race, according to the Cleveland Metroparks website.

Ticket pricing for advanced purchases is $23 for Zoo members, or they can purchase a 4-pack for $69. Non-members pay $26 or $79 for a 4-pack, respectively. Same-day tickets carry an increased cost and can be purchased online or at the zoo's Box Office, which closes at 9:30 p.m., according to Cleveland19 News. For those selecting the drive-thru experience, the cost is $48 per vehicle for members and $58 for non-members. There is no charge for children under two, as they're welcome for free.
