The Aurora Police Department is seeking assistance from the community about a fatal shooting that shook northwest Aurora last August. The incident, which claimed the life of 25-year-old Rafael Rivera-Velez, occurred outside a nightclub in the early hours of a Sunday morning. Rivera-Velez, hailing from Roma, Texas, was pronounced deceased at the scene, succumbed to gunshot wounds, as reported by the Aurora Police Department.
While the shooting took place on August 11, 2024, at approximately 1:45 a.m. in the 11200 block of East Colfax Avenue, the call to action remains urgent. A blue sedan, witnesses claim, arrived at the nightclub's parking lot and discharged a firearm into a group of individuals standing outside. The shooting resulted in not only the tragic death of Rivera-Velez but also left another victim wounded, who has since survived the attack. The Aurora authorities believe that the crowd was a random target of the aggression.
Despite exhaustive efforts by the Aurora Police Major Crime Homicide Unit, the investigation has hit a wall. The perpetrator remains unidentified, and the description of the suspect vehicle is likewise unknown. "All investigative leads developed to date have been exhausted," the Aurora Police Department disclosed, indicating a need for new information to move forward.
