
Tragedy struck in the 9800 block of Halifax Drive last Friday night, when Warren Stewart, a Black male born on January 14, 1989, became Austin's twenty-eighth homicide victim of the year 2025. Responding to an emergency call at approximately 10:28 p.m., Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) discovered Stewart lying on the ground, a scene later attended by Austin Police Department officers who found that Stewart had sustained gunshot wounds.
The 9-1-1 caller, Tevin Stewart, Warren's brother, indicated to ATCEMS personnel that he was in need of help, when they arrived, it was discovered that a shooting had taken place, the circumstances of which were not immediately clear, but as the investigation unfolded, Tevin admitted to officers on the scene that he was the one who had shot his brother. Warren Stewart was pronounced deceased by 11:09 p.m. that same night.
According to the official report published on the City of Austin website, Tevin Stewart, 31, lived with his brother Warren prior to the incident. After the shooting, Tevin was taken into custody and has been charged with first-degree murder. Austin Police Department's homicide detectives alongside crime scene specialists are now actively investigating the harrowing events that led to this fatal outcome.
