Avondale's popular Friendship Park is set to undergo a series of upgrades aimed at enhancing the experience for parkgoers and their furry companions. Starting on Thursday, the park's dog area will be temporarily closed for renovation, as reported by the City of Avondale's official news release. Planned improvements include the installation of new shade structures, a redesigned entrance, and amenities such as upgraded benches, irrigation systems, and drinking fountains catered to both pets and people.
With a cost of $1.33 million dedicated to the dog park renovation, the city is also introducing a temporary dog area to ensure residents still have a space for their pets during construction. To further accommodate pet owners, the city has recommended visiting other dog-friendly parks in the area, as highlighted by the City of Avondale's news announcement.
In addition to the dog park upgrades, Friendship Park will also be getting eight new pickleball courts, complete with LED lighting and spectator seating, reflecting an investment of $1.44 million. According to the City of Avondale's statement, these developments are a part of Avondale's commitment to providing premium public amenities. Furthermore, these courts are strategically designed to cater to a growing interest in the sport within the community.
With about 1.3 million annual visitors, Friendship Park is among the most frequented in the city. During the upgrades, park users may have to temporarily adjust their routines as certain sidewalks, especially around the walking loop, will be closed. Completion of these renovations is anticipated by late fall 2025, and the City of Avondale has encouraged those seeking more information to visit their official website at www.AvondaleConnect.org.
