Baltimore residents witnessed a stark reminder of urban vulnerability Wednesday night when an armed robbery unfolded in the historical enclave of Fells Point. The Baltimore Police Department is currently on the lookout for two individuals connected to the incident, which involved the theft of a man's cellphone and keys, FOX Baltimore reported.
Caught on surveillance video at around 11:36 pm on South Regester Street, the suspects — a male and a female believed to be in their 20s or 30s — engaged in a chase resulting in the male victim being thrown to the ground. Amidst the apparent turmoil, as documented in video footage shared on a neighborhood Facebook page, a neighbor's intervention, involving yelling at the perpetrators, caused them to abandon their aggressive pursuit and flee on foot.
According to the victim's account provided by WBAL-TV, he was ambushed while unloading his car. "I just remember them saying, 'Give us everything. Give us everything," he recounted during a phone interview. His cries for help elicited a swift reaction from Nick Briggs, a neighbor, who described the scene as "confusing."
While Baltimore police assert that robberies have decreased by 21% from the previous year, the affected community members have raised concerns over the response time of the officers to the scene. They are, nonetheless, relieved that law enforcement is actively investigating the case. The cue for public assistance remains open, as anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Baltimore Police to bring the suspects to justice.
