
Riverside County authorities have recently arrested in connection with a homicide investigation that began last week. 43-year-old Robert Leonard of Beaumont is now in custody, charged with the murder of 50-year-old Orlando Lara. According to the Riverside Sheriff’s Department, Leonard was apprehended on Friday with the aid of different units within the law enforcement community. Authorities are still looking to fully piece together the circumstances surrounding the case.
The incident in question occurred on the evening of June 25, when deputies responded to reports of a deceased individual on Morongo Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, later identified as Lara, who had sustained a traumatic injury. Investigators from the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit took over to thoroughly investigate the mysterious circumstances of his death. They have encouraged anyone with information to reach out and potentially help bring further context to this situation.
No details were released regarding the nature of the evidence that led to Leonard's arrest. The Riverside County District Attorney's Gang Impact Team and a K-9 Unit from the Riverside Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau were involved in the apprehension of the suspect, hinting at the complexity of the operation. Leonard, who was booked into a Riverside County jail, remains there as the investigation into Lara's death continues.
Meanwhile, the Riverside Sheriff’s Department has reiterated its request for public assistance with the ongoing investigation.
