A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at Evangeline's Costume Mansion in Old Sacramento. Fire crews responded around 1:07 a.m. to the building on K Street near Front Street and found it filled with heavy smoke, according to KCRA.
Sacramento firefighters responded quickly to a fire at Evangeline's. The building’s sprinkler system helped contain the damage. “If there were no fire sprinklers in this building, this would look a lot different,” said fire department spokesperson Justin Sylvia. “We would have potentially burned down an entire city block.” No injuries were reported, as reported by KCRA. Evangeline's, which recently marked its 50th anniversary, has smoke and water damage.
Evangeline's Costume Mansion in Old Sacramento, which opened in 1974, was damaged by fire, affecting the first floor and basement with water and smoke. The store is located in the historic Lady Adams Building and the Howard House, which date back to the 1850s and 1860s, as mentioned by CBS News Sacramento. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Deborah Chausse, who runs the shop, has not yet shared plans for repairs or restoration.
