The Benicia Police Department, in coordination with the Fairfield Police Department, has made an arrest following an investigation into the theft of high-end alcohol valued at over $300,000 from a local business. According to a social media post by the Benicia Police Department, surveillance footage confirmed that an employee had been siphoning wine and spirits over three months. Upon being taken into custody earlier this week, the individual was found in possession of $22,000 worth of the stolen goods at his residence.
Arrest records from the Benicia Police Department identify the suspect as Richard Meredith, a 62-year-old male from the 1100 Block of Broadway St #3. The stolen bounty of liquid luxury was less than a treasure chest's worth of the total haul, with most of the high-value alcohol still unaccounted for. Mr. Meredith is facing multiple felony charges, including second-degree burglary and grand theft of property from a building. He was arrested around noon on Tuesday, and details were available via the Benicia Police Department.
The case number, 25-00457, ties Meredith to several charges: 459 Pc: Burglary: second degree - all other larceny (F), 487(a) Pc: Grand theft: money/labor/property - from building (F), 503 Pc: Embezzlement $950+ (F), and 30305(a)(1) Pc: Prohibited person own/possess/etc ammunition/etc (F).
Authorities have booked Meredith into the Solano County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
