A Birmingham man, identified as 37-year-old Peter Chan-Woong Chung, is facing serious charges after an attempted break-in at a Bloomfield Township residence. In the early hours of Saturday morning, a homeowner alerted the authorities to an individual who was kicking, and stabbing the front door with a knife in an attempt to gain entry, according to FOX 2 Detroit.
Upon their arrival at the scene, police found Chung on the front porch of the residence located near Quarton Rd. and Lasher Rd. A knife, believed to be the weapon used in the attempt, was discovered on a window ledge next to the door. The damage to the door was significant, with Bloomfield Township Police Department estimates exceeding $1,000, as reported by WWJ Newsradio 950. The precise motive behind Chung's actions has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear if there was any prior relationship between him and the resident of the home.
Chung faced arraignment the following Sunday and has been charged with Attempted Home Invasion First Degree. The court set his bond at $25,000 cash/surety, which was confirmed by ClickOnDetroit.
