The Bloomington Police Department in Minnesota had an exceptionally busy weekend as their officers were engaged in a series of high-stakes operations, including a state-wide manhunt and a bomb scare. In a social media post, the department chronicled the efforts of their officers over what was no doubt a taxing series of engagements for the force.
According to the detailed account provided by the Bloomington Police Department, the officers were called to swiftly assemble to assist in a large-scale operation for the apprehension of a homicide suspect. The department revealed, "Our team assisted in the state’s largest manhunt for a homicide suspect, assisting in a safe apprehension, and provided protection to some of our elected officials." This crucial effort led to the suspect being safely taken into custody. Moreover, their Bomb Squad Officers were deployed to Sibley County to secure the suspect's vehicle, ensuring the safety of local authorities and enabling further investigation.
Beyond the manhunt, the department's K9 Unit played a role in the tracking and evidence search related to the murder suspect. In a separate effort highlighting the multifaceted nature of the weekend's tasks, they responded to a mutual aid request from a neighboring city. Here, officers from the Emergency Response Unit were sent to preserve public safety amidst unspecified disturbances.
The Bloomington Police also facilitated peaceful protests through the involvement of their Public Order Unit, maintaining safety and order as citizens expressed their rights. "Officers from our Public Order Unit ensured those who gathered to protest were able to do so safely and in a peaceful manner," the department stated. Within their own jurisdiction, regular policing duties continued unabated, with the Patrol Unit responding to a bevy of calls that ranged from burglary to domestic violence incidents.
The accumulation of these events underscores the department's commitment to community safety and its readiness to lend aid beyond its immediate boundaries. The post noted the personal sacrifices made by many officers, who gave up time with their families on Father's Day to serve the community and their partner agencies. "Many who assisted this weekend sacrificed time with their families on Father's Day to help their partners and for the greater good of our community and state of Minnesota," the department expressed. The Bloomington Police ended their message with a note of gratitude towards their partners, confident in the reciprocal support at times of need.
