The Optimist Club, in collaboration with the Bloomington Police Department, recently lauded Detective Kristin Boomer and civilian staff member Christine Thelen for their exemplary work in the line of duty and beyond. As reported by the City of Bloomington, Boomer received the Respect for Law Officer of the Year award, while Thelen was named Civilian Staff Member of the Year.
With a tenure starting back in 2006 at BPD, Detective Boomer's contributions are invaluable, engaged in work ranging from public safety reform at a state level to training initiatives that enhance trauma-informed investigations. Recognized by the community, her involvement with the Domestic Abuse Fatality Review Board and the ICAC Task Force has anchored her reputation as a leader influenced by both skill and compassion, according to the City of Bloomington.
Meanwhile, Christine Thelen's commitment was celebrated, not just through administrative accolades, but by her tangible efforts to foster ties between law enforcement and the community. Celebrated for organizing a charitable event which culminated in 300 boxes of food packed for hungry children, Thelen's service extends beyond such outreach. By securing a grant for sensory kits, she has enhanced the BPD's capacity to interact more sensitively with neurodivergent and nonverbal individuals, an initiative emblematic of her holistic approach to community engagement.
