According to CBS News Detroit, the hospital and emergency center remained operational throughout the incident. "Security, law enforcement and K9 teams remain onsite in an abundance of caution. Safety is a top priority, and we appreciate the swift actions of our team members and law enforcement," said a statement from the health system.
The Oakland University Police Department had advised to swiftly evacuate students, faculty, and staff from the campus at 7:50 p.m. yesterday. The Detroit News reported that the "all clear" was subsequently announced at 9:17 p.m., signaling the resumption of normal operations at the health facility.
Despite alerts of an evacuation issued by Oakland University, a spokesperson for Corewell Health stated that an actual evacuation of the facility did not occur. This clarification came as Corewell Health reassured the community of the hospital’s safety measures. Reporting by FOX 2 Detroit highlighted the precautionary presence of security and K9 teams at the hospital site.
It is worth noting that the same Corewell Health Beaumont hospital experienced previous turmoil when a disgruntled employee allegedly shot a coworker in the parking garage back in March. "Law enforcement and security believe that the threat is not credible. The Troy Hospital and emergency center are open," read a statement released by Corewell, reassured by the preventative actions of their security apparatus, as noted by FOX 2 Detroit.
