Summer heat is making its punctual arrival in Boston this week, and with it comes a forecast of near-90-degree temperatures. While today starts with the possibility of showers post-11am and mostly cloudy skies, the real story begins as we lean into the latter part of the week where the thermometer readings threaten to soar well past seasonal norms, according to National Weather Service.
Despite a Tuesday that will see coastal highs stagnating in the upper 60s with further inland areas experiencing a slight uptick into the low to mid 70s, the NBC Boston reports that this is merely a prelude to the sweltering temperatures to come, meanwhile there's a persistent muggy atmosphere setting the stage for an even more humid Wednesday with temperatures expected to climb into the low 80s, while most areas remain draped under mostly to partly cloudy skies.
The upward trend in temperatures is forecasted to peak on Thursday, with the high potentially reaching 90 degrees, a noticeable departure from the average high of 77 degrees for Boston this time of year. This surge in heat is not without its companions; Thursday may also bring a round of showers and isolated thunderstorms as a cold front approaches from the west, promising a potential for strong storms that could generate damaging winds and heavy rain in parts of Greater Boston and southern New Hampshire.
We won't be out of the woods after the front passes, although Friday's forecast brings slightly lower high temperatures in the low to mid 80s, there's still a possibility of showers looming overhead. Transitioning into the weekend, Saturday is slated for dry weather, with a comfortable forecast hinting at continual sunshine and high temperatures maintaining a steady presence in the low to mid 80s, though Sunday might see the reemergence of isolated showers.
