Boston residents are experiencing a breezy start to their summer today, with gusts potentially exceeding 40 mph. According to the Weather Forecast, the city will enjoy sunny skies with a high near 84 degrees, despite the strong winds shaking trees, and sweeping hats off heads.
These winds are part of a larger picture, heralding from a deep storm center to our north — specifically in eastern Quebec. As NBC Boston reports, the weekend will kick off with a "superb Saturday" following a string of 13 rain-dominated weekends. Perfect conditions for those eager to soak up sun at their favored beach, lake, or swimming hole/pool. The area is braced for a markedly less gusty day.
However, the fair weather won’t hold indefinitely. The National Weather Service Boston/Norton MA has issued a wind advisory for much of Massachusetts, anticipating "west winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph." The advisory, which covers a broad swathe from the Berkshires through to the North Shore, will remain in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EDT Friday. The National Weather Service warns that these gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and cause power outages, with the added note for drivers to exercise caution, especially those in high-profile vehicles.
Looking forward into the weekend, a chance for showers and thunderstorms emerges Saturday night, potentially continuing into the early morning hours of Sunday, with a 40% chance of precipitation. While Sunday maintains a slight chance of thunderstorms, the heat is expected to amp up considerably early next week, with temperatures on Tuesday nearing a scorching 98 degrees, NBCBoston projects. This kind of heat, especially when it pushes heat indices into the low 100s, borders on dangerous – prompting officials to advise residents to find ways to stay cool.
As the week progresses, a respite from the heat appears likely, with a high near 82 degrees forecast for Wednesday. But, Bostonians must remain alert as the uncertainty of New England weather persists, with the possibility of showers returning by Thursday and, a cooler high near 77 degrees on the horizon.
