
Amid health and safety concerns, Brooklyn-based Hofood99 Inc. is recalling its Enoki mushrooms. The recall is due to potential contamination with Listeria, a bacteria that can cause serious health issues, particularly for young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems, the recall was first reported by NBC New York.
The potential contamination was identified after the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development's (MDARD) Laboratory Division tested samples from a Michigan store. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and reported by ABC 7 New York, no illnesses related to the recall have been reported to date.
Individuals who have purchased mushrooms should check their supplies, as the recall involves 200-gram packages of Enoki mushrooms in green plastic packaging, identified by UPC barcode 6 976532 310051 on the back label, which were distributed nationwide. Consumers who have these mushrooms are advised to either discard them immediately or return them to the store where they were bought for a refund.
