Residents in Brooksville should not be alarmed to see an increased law enforcement presence near the Buford Spring Trailhead today. According to a social media post by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, dive team training exercises are being conducted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. within the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area. The announcement made clear that this was a routine training exercise, and there was no cause for public concern.
Officials, having anticipated the attention the training might draw, went ahead to release a statement aimed at mitigating any potential worry. "Please be advised that the increased law enforcement presence is part of the training and not a cause for concern," said the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the wildlife area, officers were seen prepping for what is considered an essential component of their operational preparedness in the realm of water-based scenarios and emergencies.
