A car crash on Saturday morning in Buckhead has led to a significant water main break, resulting in road closures and water service interruptions for local residents and institutions, including a major hospital. FOX 5 Atlanta reports the incident occurred on the 2000 block of Peachtree Road NW, compelling the shutdown of two northbound lanes as repair crews attended the break. The road was reopened by Sunday morning, though city officials recommended that drivers avoid the area during the repairs.
The water main break caused major disruptions—Piedmont Hospital, nearby apartments, five businesses, and six fire hydrants lost water service. The cause of the break hasn’t been shared, but it’s the second one in the area within 24 hours. A similar 16-inch pipe broke on Northside Parkway the day before. Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management is working on the issue but hasn’t said how long repairs will take, according to Atlanta News First.
The Department of Watershed Management has not commented on the exact number of homes and businesses affected, but has confirmed the extent of the disruption includes multiple key facilities. The Paces neighborhood, impacted by the previous day's break, remains under a boil water advisory, indicating the potential gravity and reach of these infrastructure failures.
