
Firefighters in Carlsbad have been actively extinguishing a brush fire that erupted yesterday, with efforts resulting in significant containment. The blaze, which ignited near Corte Claro and Paseo Encino, spread quickly to encompass 45 acres before the advance of the flames was brought to a halt shortly before 5 PM Teams from CAL FIRE, San Marcos Fire Department, and the Carlsbad Fire Department collaborated to address the challenging terrain that the fire presented. According to CBS 8, a CAL FIRE captain stated the crews are primed to attack similar fires as the Claro Fire rapidly.
Residents residing in the vicinity were quickly evacuated as a safety precaution and were directed to the Stagecoach Community Center for shelter. All evacuation orders have been lifted as the situation has improved. Despite the progress, safety measures included road closures along eastbound San Elijo Road at Rancho Santa Fe Road, westbound San Elijo Road, and southbound at San Elijo Road & Melrose Drive. The Carlsbad police also cautioned people to steer clear of the area impacted by the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, as it remains under investigation by CAL FIRE.
As of the latest update, the fire is 90% contained, and the region is showing signs of returning to its usual pace. The fire's status, still holding at 45 acres, has seen teams making steady progress in building containment lines and methodically extinguishing hotspots within the fire's perimeter.
