A Carrollton police officer is fighting for his life after a severe traffic incident on Wednesday. Officer Dustin Krish was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic near an Ingles grocery store on Highway 27, a location described by many as a troublesome intersection prone to mishaps. The officer, who started his service with the department on Sept. 24, 2022, was airlifted to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and is currently listed in serious but stable condition, according to information from FOX 5 Atlanta.
An investigation led by the Georgia State Patrol is actively trying to unfold the sequence of events, to determine whether charges against the driver involved are warranted. Caught beneath a traffic light when the vehicle hit him, bystanders immediately came to Krish's aid, relayed Captain Shannon Cantrell of Carrollton Police. "Right after it happened, there were some citizens who came and checked on the officer right after he got hit," Cantrell told FOX 5 Atlanta. The incident led to the closure of all lanes on Highway 27 for several hours, but they have since reopened.
Support for the injured officer poured in from the community and beyond. "I just pray for him, that he’s okay," Reggie Bradfield, a witness to the aftermath, confessed in an interview with FOX 5 Atlanta. The Carrollton Police Department expressed its gratitude through social media for the support and prayers received from the general populace.
In a heartfelt social media post, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp sent his well wishes: "Please join Marty, the girls, and me in praying for this officer and the Carrollton Police Department," he wrote, as the community and the Carrollton Police Department deeply felt the impact of the event. "May God give his wisdom to the doctors treating this brave first responder," Kemp's message continued, as obtained by Atlanta News First. The officer's exact condition concerning potential head injuries remains a subject of great concern for the Carrollton Police Department.
