The Casa Grande Public Library is ushering in the summer with a bouquet of events and programs aimed at fostering a love for reading and learning in the community. Among the highlights for the week of Monday through Saturday, patrons can register for the "Color Our World" Summer Reading Program, which promises a vibrant celebration of literature that people of all ages can enjoy.
An announcement on the city's official website invites interested participants to sign up by June 30 and track their reading minutes using the Beanstack app. Residents can pick up registration goodies at two locations: the Main Library at 449 N. Drylake St., and Vista Grande Library at 1556 N. Arizola Rd. Moreover, both library branches are offering a kids' scavenger hunt throughout the week, a sheet for which can be grabbed at the front desk, and thus begins the search.
Technology enthusiasts or those seeking to sharpen their digital communication skills can attend a free tech class on video calling and conferencing. The session, which requires no registration, covers the essentials of popular platforms like Zoom, FaceTime, and Google Meet. The class is scheduled for Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Main Library.
Another event titled "Colorful Characters" is set to take place on June 28 at the Main Library at 2:00 p.m. According to the library's weekly newsletter, light snacks and drinks with screw tops are permitted, and children under the age of 12, must be supervised. In addition to the children's program, the Vita Grande Library invites patrons to join their Crochet & Knitting Club on Fridays from 3:30–5:00 p.m., with the session on June 24 open for individuals 12 and over to craft and create together.
Engaged readers can mark their calendars for July 7 when the Literati Adult Book Club will delve into Kirsten Miller's "Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books." The library's ongoing initiatives also include bookmobile services, garden classes in collaboration with UA Master Gardeners, and free online courses through Universal Class. For those looking for one-on-one tech support, personalized Tutor Tech Time sessions are available by appointment, and the GED Program continues to offer a pathway to earning a high school diploma at no cost.
The library system also welcomes book donations at each location during business hours, with a call to the Main Library suggested for larger contributions. For community members eager to contribute their time and skills, volunteer opportunities abound, especially for those interested in tutoring roles for adult learners or ESL students. And for a dash of cultural enrichment, the Culture Pass Program extends free admission to a variety of Arizona museums and attractions, a bonus that can be accessed through both library locations and the bookmobile.
