In an outpouring of community grief, the Casnovia Township Fire Department announced the loss of Deputy Chief Sam Deems, who died in a car accident yesterday, as per their Facebook post. Deems, who was only 25 years old, was remembered for his "passion, heart, and an unwavering commitment to this community," and his profound love for life, family, friends, and service. The Fire Department post detailed a man who truly embodied the spirit of giving, and the department is now mourning the loss of a brother.
A call for support for Deems' wife during this trying time includes a link to a fundraiser set up to help with funeral costs and provide financial relief for his surviving spouse. The community has rallied, raising over $10,000 so far, as reported by WZZM13.
Rockford Ambulance, where Deems also served as a Paramedic Supervisor, confirmed their involvement in responding to the crash and shared their sorrow, CEO Tim Armstrong said, "Today, we lost a valuable member of the community, friend, and family member who has always put others above himself while serving in his communities," according to a statement obtained by FOX17. The organization is providing support to their staff as they process the loss.
