In a recent announcement, the City of Charlotte has made public its intentions to donate three surplus vehicles to the Johnson C Smith University Police Department. According to a public notice, these vehicles consist of a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria and two Ford Explorer Interceptors from 2017 and 2018, all previously part of the municipal fleet. Seen as surplus, obsolete, or unused, they have been deemed appropriate for donation under North Carolina law.
The donation, subject to approval by the Charlotte City Council, will be discussed at the upcoming meeting scheduled for June 23, at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center located in downtown Charlotte; the meeting is open to public comments which can be directed to Kim Crockett, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Financial & Procurement Manager.
The contribution marks another step in strengthening the resources of the JCSU Police Department, which handles both administrative and security duties on campus, this infusing new life into the department's aging vehicle fleet , providing them with additional tools to ensure the safety and well-being of the university community.
