Smoke emerged from a ventilation point atop Garinger High School yesterday morning, generating a response from the Charlotte Fire Department. The school, nestled on Eastway Drive in the heart of east Charlotte, stood while fire officials and trucks congregated to address the issue.
According to the fire department, the cause of the smoke was attributed to an electrical problem within the school, affecting only one classroom and producing no flames. "Crews arrived to find smoke extending from a vent on the top side of the building," firefighters explained to WBTV. In a scene surrounded by firefighters, the area was swiftly ventilated to mitigate the incident, ensuring that no further parts of the Garinger High School were impacted.
Despite the striking image of smoke pouring from the rooftop, there was a confirmation that there was no active fire nor any injuries sustained, shared by the Charlotte Fire Department. "There was no fire in the building. Nobody was hurt," detailed Charlotte Fire, as WCNC Charlotte reached out to gather additional facts on the event.
For those concerned about the safety of the students and staff, it was reassuring that the incident occurred when the school was presumably not housing its usual bustling populace of young scholars and educators. Firefighters are currently continuing efforts to ventilate the building and ensure that the environment is secure and safe for the eventual return of its occupants. No injuries have been reported as firefighters continue to ventilate the building and the surrounding area, as they told QC News.
