
A fatal crash in Belmont has concluded to the death of a man after a rollover incident yesterday evening, as reported by Belmont Police Department. The deceased, identified as Herbert James Wilson of Charlotte, was involved in the collision around 7:30 p.m. at the juncture of Wilkinson Boulevard and Browntown Road. QC News provided initial details of the accident, noting that a Ford Explorer crashed and rolled over in the westbound lanes of Wilkinson Blvd.
Investigators believe, as per information received by WCNC, that the accident occurred when a woman, exiting from the Napa Auto Parts parking lot, attempted to cross eastbound lanes of U.S. 74 and collided with Wilson's vehicle, which led to the tragic rollover. In the rolled vehicle, Wilson was found pinned and unresponsive before being extricated by first responders. Despite life-saving attempts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The aftermath of the collision saw Wilkinson Boulevard shut down for multiple hours, resulting in traffic being diverted onto East Catawba Street. According to a statement obtained by QC News, the Belmont Police highlighted the fact that the driver of the other vehicle involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. At present, it remains uncertain whether she will face charges as a result of the crash.
