According to a recent press release from Michigan's Attorney General Dana Nessel, Jingyu Jin, 45, a Chinese national, is slated to face trial in the 16th Circuit Court in Macomb County on charges related to his alleged role as the leader of a human trafficking operation. Michigan authorities have charged Jin with six felonies, including running a criminal enterprise, conspiracy to engage in such an enterprise, profiting from prostitution, transportation designed to facilitate prostitution, money laundering, and maintaining a prostitution house.

The charges come after a major crackdown in December 2024, where law enforcement officials conducted several raids in Wayne and Macomb Counties, setting free numerous women from China and Korea believed to be victims of the trafficking ring. Jin's case has been highlighted by Nessel as evidence of Michigan's resolve against human trafficking. In her words, "The disturbing reality is that human trafficking continues to exploit vulnerable people throughout our state," and "I am pleased that this case is now headed to trial, as it brings us closer to making it clear Michigan will not be a safe haven for the heinous trafficking trade," as reported by the Attorney General's Office.

Jin, who has remained in custody since being charged in December 2024, is expected to make his next court appearance on June 23. The investigation, which shed light on the expansive scale of the trafficking operation, began in the summer of 2024 and eventually led to the dismantling of the alleged sex trafficking ring operating in Detroit and surrounding areas.
