In the midst of Monday's regular activities, an incident of property damage was reported in the 8100 block of Maryland Avenue where a man struck a parking garage gate arm, according to Clayton Clayton Police Department's Weekly Police Incident Report. On the same day, a suspected package theft turned out to be a false alarm, but police took the opportunity to advise residents on security improvements.
Overall, police efforts to staunchly uphold the law were highlighted when they tracked down and arrested a man wanted for serious felony charges after spotting his vehicle via a Flock Safety camera. This individual is now awaiting transfer to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police. Similarly, police were able to quickly recover a stolen bicycle and arrest the suspect, despite being faced with a tracking down the device planted on a man's car by his ex-girlfriend. These incidents underscore the department's commitment to promptly and diligently respond to crime in the community.
Returning to the roads, there were 14 vehicle crashes including a slick road situation on Forest Park Parkway that led to a rear-end collision, as described in the report. Officers took preventive action by contacting the County Highway Department to wash down the surface and prevent further incidents.
Other notable incidents include the arrest of an intoxicated Lyft customer who caused damage to the vehicle when the ride was canceled, and a peace disturbance that escalated into an arrest when offensive language was directed at a CPD officer. In a show of proactive responsibility, a man turned himself in to face an outstanding warrant for felony stealing. Police continue to diligently investigate unresolved cases, including incidents of unexplained vehicle damage and hit-and-run accusations where suspects remain unidentified.
In one case, the manager of a bank flagged suspicious behavior in their parking lot, leading to the arrest of a man with three active warrants. In an effort to maintain public safety, the Clayton Police Department continues its investigations, with several court dates scheduled for the cases involved.
