In a show of neighborly solidarity, Cleveland Heights swim enthusiasts won't have to forego their summer pool time despite maintenance at their local spot. Thanks to a temporary arrangement, those holding passes to Cumberland Pool will be able to make a splash over at Thornton Park Pool in Shaker Heights, officials announced by the City of Shaker Heights.
The arrangement is set to commence today, June 5, and will extend through June 15. During this period, the Thornton Park Pool will open its gates to Cleveland Heights residents holding valid pool passes every Sunday through Friday from 12 pm to 7:30 pm, except for Saturdays. In a concurrent effort to preserve a slice of normalcy, Shaker residents have been allotted exclusive pool access for lap swim and toddler pool usage from 9 am to 12 pm.
Both cities have put forth efforts to ensure that the setup does not interfere with the leisure of either community. Thornton Pool staff, celebrated for their commitment to safety and cleanliness, are preparing for the influx of visitors and will work alongside Cleveland Heights staff to check in Cumberland Pool pass holders and assist with the upkeep of the facilities.
Commending the intercommunity cooperation, Shaker Heights officials stated, "We appreciate our residents' patience and community spirit as we temporarily share our pool with our Cleveland Heights neighbors." This sentiment echoes a sense of shared experiences and resources that bind communities in more than just proximity, but in mutual support during times when a pool might be more than just a pool - a sanctuary from the summer heat, and an emblem of togetherness.
