A two-year-old boy from the Cleveland, Texas area is currently battling for his life after being struck by a vehicle driven by a relative. The Liberty County Sheriff's Office reported the incident occurred on a private driveway on County Road 3548 near Plum Grove Road yesterday. In a distressing turn, the child was initially being transported to the hospital by his parents when they encountered an LCSO patrol unit, which they flagged down for aid.
Corporal Rosas, the officer from the LCSO who responded, quickly evaluated the toddler and, seeing the critical condition of the child, chose to urgently call for additional units and EMS assistance. According to a statement obtained by KHOU, "Cpl. Rosas transferred the mother and toddler to a nearby Texas Department of Public Safety unit, which transported them to HCA Cleveland Hospital."
The situation escalated after hospital ER staff commenced life-saving efforts and called for a Life Flight helicopter. The boy was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he underwent surgery. The current condition of the child post-surgery remains unreported. The tragic event prompted the Liberty County Sheriff's Office to launch a full investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
Meanwhile, the community has rallied around the child and his family, with the office's sympathies publicly expressed through their spokesperson. "Our hearts go out to the toddler and his family during this deeply tragic time. We are keeping them in our prayers," Captain David Meyers stated in comments reported by both FOX26 Houston and KHOU. Captain Meyers continued, highlighting the quick reaction of the officers involved: "Cpl. Rosas and all the deputies involved acted with urgency and professionalism, doing everything possible to get this child the critical care he needed."
As of now, the names of the family member driving the vehicle and others involved have not been released to the public. This story is still developing, and more details are expected to follow as the investigation proceeds.
