
Columbus police are actively searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run collision that left a pedestrian in critical condition. The incident, which occurred early morning on Sunday at the crossroads of Kenny Road and West 5th Avenue, involved a 2024-2025 Hyundai Santa Fe. According to ABC6, the vehicle struck the adult victim while they were within the marked crosswalk and subsequently fled the scene heading north on Kenny Road without stopping.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. They are reported to be in critical condition, suffering from a fractured skull, a massive brain hemorrhage, and extensive bruising, as informed to officers by a trauma care doctor. Witnesses at the hospital described the moment of the accident to officers, saying, "were walking eastbound on West 5th Avenue with the victim, approximately six feet ahead of her," and reported hearing a "loud thud," as obtained by CW Columbus.
At the scene, responders found evidence of the crash, including a pair of sandals near the intersection. However, the Accident Investigation Unit could not be immediately reached as they were occupied with two other incidents. Police have made a call for any information regarding the silver or grey SUV, believed to be a recent Hyundai model.
