Johnna Lowe, who played a role in the death of 8-year-old Martonio Wilder, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years. As per ABC 6 On Your Side, the sentence was handed down after Lowe pleaded guilty to charges of murder and gross abuse of a corpse, while additional charges, including endangering children, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence, were dropped.
According to court proceedings documented by NBC4i, the boy's body was discovered in a garbage bag, hidden within a sleeping bag cover in the attic following a statewide Amber Alert triggered by his absence. Lashanda Wilder, Martonio's mother, called 911 to report her son missing on June 28, 2024. Still, her subsequent lack of cooperation and her departure from the scene with her two other children prompted an intense police investigation.
During the trial, ABC 6 On Your Side reports revealed disturbing details of Martonio's treatment under Lowe and Wilder's care. Prosecutors shared accounts from witnesses and family members who noted Martonio's "unusual punishments," such as being forced to hold a weighted ball, walking up and down steps while nude, and being denied food. His autopsy showed severe malnutrition, dehydration, and blunt trauma.
The investigation of the case led to a guilty plea from Lowe in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. At the same time, Lashanda Wilder's court appearance is scheduled for July 15. 10TV disclosed that Lowe pleaded guilty to one count of murder and one count of abuse of a corpse; she will have 342 days of jail credit towards her sentence.
