In a move to enhance the digital tools available to its residents, Cook County has just released a major update to its property information platform. Dubbed CookViewer 3.1, this upgrade promises to make accessing public data a much smoother and more intuitive experience, all thanks to a revamped mapping engine and user interface improvements. Designed to work across both desktop and mobile platforms, CookViewer 3.1 seems set to quickly become an indispensable resource for homeowners and businesses across the country.
The fresh mapping engine, which operates on the ArcGIS Maps Software Development Kit for JavaScript, delivers not only faster load times but also ensures greater compatibility across various devices. The updated user experience is crowned by the Calcite Design System 3.0, which offers a cleaner and more straightforward navigation layout. Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle highlighted the progression of digital tools in a statement, "As technology evolves, so must our tools," and affirmed the county’s dedication to making public data broadly accessible and practical for use.
User education has been a focus in this new release, with a new Help dialog and a guided tour now available to assist first-time users in exploring the platform's features. Additionally, the parcel symbology has been finely tuned, improving the overall visual contrast and readability against aerial imagery. The attention to detail extends to the Measure tool and the streamlined PDF property reports, which are poised to offer more accuracy in property assessments.
On the usability front, the overhaul includes standardized panel controls, better mobile layouts, and visual cues that are designed to support often-used functionalities like printing and parcel selection. Likewise, a few pesky bugs have reportedly been squashed to further increase the stability and smooth the workflow, particularly in the 'Comparable Search' and 'Select Multiple Parcels' features. A nod to bilingual accessibility, CookViewer is now available in both English and Spanish.
Since its initial launch back in 2010, CookViewer has steadily grown into a trusted and reliable tool for not just residents but businesses and government agencies as well. According to a recent announcement, with version 3.1, Cook County reasserts its commitment to maintaining transparency and fairness while driving innovation in the public dissemination of geographic information.
