Covington, Tennessee, was the scene of a dangerous chase and subsequent DUI arrest on June 10, with the Covington Police Department taking to social media to recount the arrest of a local man. In a Facebook post, the department provided an account of the incident, which began with a panicked group of individuals informing officers that they were being pursued by a male driver. The police detailed how the pursuit ended in a crash on Tennessee Avenue, where the driver, Elton Nance Jr., lost control of his vehicle, as reported by the Covington Police Department.

Responding to the chaos, officers encountered and identified Nance returning to the scene in the silver Audi involved in the chase, according to the department's social media post. Brimming with the stench of alcohol and with an open and half-empty can of Busch beer still cold to the touch, Nance performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Despite having wrecked his car, officers discovered Nance after he had been at the nearby Broadmeadows to make a run to the store, a claim that seemed to contrast with the more harrowing tale of his pursuit.

The local law enforcement utilized the newly installed "Sky Cop" cameras, which provided evidence of the suspect's vehicle damaging property and corroborated the victims' accounts of being chased. As conveyed by authorities, samples from Nance's damaged vehicle matched those from the crash scene. "SkyCop cameras assisted in confirming where the vandalism had occurred and the chase of the victims to hold the driver responsible for his actions," stated Chief Donna Turner in the published Facebook post. Nance now faces multiple charges, including DUI, aggravated assault, open container violation, vandalism, and violations connected to his federal probation for a prior felony possession of a firearm.

"Officers conducting community policing foot patrols resulted in the quick capture and identification of the suspect in this case. We are fortunate that the victims or someone else were not injured in this reckless encounter," said Chief Donna Turner, grateful for the timely response of her officers and the technology that aided them. Nance, held on a $100,000 bond, is pending court adjudication later in the month. The Covington Police Department is asking for anyone with additional information to contact their Criminal Investigations Division at 901-475-1261 or via the department's social channels.
