Rescue teams in Cuyahoga Falls continued their efforts this morning to locate a man and a 5-year-old child after their kayak capsized in the Cuyahoga River, as reported by Cleveland19 News. According to a release from the Akron Fire Department, the incident occurred south of Broad Boulevard near the Sheraton Suites hotel, and the kayak was found shortly after 9 p.m. yesterday, although the kayakers were not with it. The search began at 7:51 p.m. and was suspended just after 9:55 p.m. due to poor light conditions.
The Cuyahoga Falls Police, Akron Fire, Akron Police, Summit Metro Parks, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol have all been involved in the search, with helicopters and drones also deployed to enhance search visibility, said the Akron Fire Department, in a statement obtained by the Akron Beacon Journal. Officials have not yet provided updates on whether the man and child have been found.
The Akron Fire Department's dive team was dispatched to assist with the search and rescue operation upon receiving reports that the two individuals were in the water following the capsize, as per the information from WKYC. The collaborative effort included the use of watercraft and ground personnel assessing the scene to locate anyone in distress, and resumed early Sunday morning after being suspended the previous night.
