In a startling incident that unfolded in broad daylight, a family dispute escalated to violence, leading to a father being shot by his own daughter. Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reports that on Sunday, a woman identified as Gabriella Nascimento, 28, was arrested for Attempted Murder in the First Degree after she allegedly shot her father, Rogerio Nascimento.
The confrontation took place during a child custody exchange at the Sheriff’s Administration Building at 10750 Ulmerton Road. The estranged wife of Rogerio Nascimento was present, along with their four minor children and a friend. Rogerio was accompanied by his sister. It was around 9:04 a.m. when Gabriella Nascimento arrived separately, joined the group, and shortly thereafter, produced a semi-automatic firearm and shot Rogerio in the back. As he ran for help, she pursued and fired again, missing the second shot. According to detectives, she then dropped the weapon and waited near the scene until deputies arrived, according to Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Rogerio managed to make it to the lobby of the building, where he sought help. He was later transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. No other individuals were harmed during the incident. Gabriella, who is reported to have a transient address, was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail on an attempted murder charge.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continues, as deputies work to unravel what led to this fraught and violent confrontation. Gabriella Nascimento remains in police custody as she awaits further legal proceedings in the case against her for the attempted murder of her father, a man reportedly residing in Valrico at 2913 Valencia Ridge.
