The City of Davis has officially announced a free public celebration for Independence Day happening in Community Park, Davis on Friday, July 4, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. A range of activities has been scheduled to bring the community together in an event that features local talent and traditional pastimes.
Attendees can look to enjoy various snacks and treats from local non-profits beginning at 4 p.m., and children will have the opportunity to quickly engage in a free game zone organized by Discovery Christian Church up until 8 p.m. The evening's live music is coordinated by the Davis Live Music Collective, featuring performances by the Hattie Craven Band at 6:30 p.m. followed by The Sam Chase & the Untraditional at 8 p.m. To cap off the celebration, a 15-minute fireworks display is set to start at 9:35 p.m., the only safe and legal use of fireworks permitted in the area, as reiterated by the City of Davis.
With limited availability for vehicle parking, the city strongly encourages patrons to use alternative transit modes, walking or biking to the event. Despite having self-serve bike parking available, it's expected to fill up rapidly. Among the numerous amenities and cautions, it's noted that the off-leash dog area within the park will be closed for the duration of the event.
