Denver has just raised the stakes in the urban art scene with a mammoth steel creature named "Rhingo". Towering at 30 feet and tipping the scales at 22,000 pounds, this vibrant rhino statue now stands watch over Denargo Market in the heart of RiNo Art District, according to The Denver Post.
In what felt like a communal embrace of public art, nearly 1,500 locals threw in suggestions for the name 'Rhingo' during a campaign that drew city-wide attention. "Rhingo," a whimsical moniker reflecting the sculpture's playful persona, triumphed over other submissions. As stated by the Denver Gazette, a special unveiling event with Denver City Councilman Darrell Watson in attendance made the name official.
The unveiling marked an early milestone for the much-anticipated 17-acre site's redevelopment and serves as an inviting beacon to both residents and tourists. Sean Campbell, CEO of FORMATIV, cast the vision for the iconic steel rhino as per 9NEWS, saying, "The rhino is our first big step in prioritizing public elements for locals and visitors to interact with."
