Markiese King, a 31-year-old Detroit native, faces a six-count indictment after an alleged robbery spree that ended with his arrest at the hands of joint law enforcement agencies. King is accused of robbing several stores in the Detroit area, as well as escaping from a residential reentry center where he was serving time for a prior conviction. The charges against him include three counts of Interference with Commerce by Robbery and two counts of Use and Carry of a Firearm in Relation to a Crime of Violence.

The string of incidents began on May 20, 2025, when King reportedly robbed a Dollar General in Detroit. An indictment from the United States Attorney's Office alleges that King used a firearm to intimidate the store's employees while demanding money. A few days later, King is said to have hit an Advance Auto Parts store in Warren, Michigan, using similar tactics. His escape from custody at the Cherry Health Residential Reentry Center is believed to have occurred between these two robberies.

Completing a trifecta of thefts, on May 28, King allegedly robbed an AutoZone in Highland Park. The indictment claims he once again displayed a pistol to staff members before taking off with an undisclosed amount of money. However, his freedom was short-lived, as a coalition of police from Detroit, Warren, Highland Park, and federal agencies, including the FBI's Macomb County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service, quickly closed in on his whereabouts, culminating in his capture on May 30, 2025.

While an indictment signifies formal charges, it should be noted that it does not equate to evidence of guilt. King is entitled to a fair trial, during which "it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt," as stated by the United States Attorney's Office. The case, handled by Assistant United States Attorney Micah Wallace, remains open pending King's day in court.
