Michigan State Police are actively investigating a potentially hazardous incident after a 32-year-old Inkster woman reported that her car might have been the target of gunfire while she was driving on I-96 in Detroit with her three children present. The alarming event reportedly occurred last night around 9:15 p.m. near Greenfield Road, when a white Jeep Grand Cherokee allegedly approached her vehicle in the neighboring lane, according to CBS News Detroit
The woman claimed to have noticed the passenger of the Jeep reaching over the driver and firing shots from the driver's side window; this led her to accelerate rapidly in hopes of escaping the situation while the Jeep took the Greenfield exit, yet despite the serious nature of her allegations, it must be noted that the police inspectors did not find any evidence of damage to her car nor were there any physical injuries reported. Subsequently, the freeway was shut down for a period to allow for an investigation employing K-9 units, with service eventually restored a few hours later, as per a report by FOX 2 Detroit.
While the thoroughfare was later reopened, no description of the assailants could be provided by the woman pivotal to the case, an aspect that might represent a significant challenge for law enforcement in their pursuit of answers or suspects. "Troopers are continuing their investigation and determine what occurred," MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said in a statement, pointing to ongoing efforts to understand the full scope of the incident, as mentioned in the coverage by Audacy.
Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with potentially relevant information to come forward. They can contact the Metro South Post at 734-287-5000 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.
