A tragic incident occurred on Friday night when a 30-year-old Detroit man lost his life in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 96. Michigan State Police reported that the crash happened near Evergreen Road on westbound I-96 around 9:25 p.m., as per information from CBS News. Witnesses called 911 to report a downed motorcycle, and a helicopter crew subsequently spotted the rider motionless on the highway's eastbound lanes.
The man was traveling at a high speed when he lost control, causing him to collide with a concrete wall, resulting in being ejected onto the opposite side of the freeway. Authorities arrived to find the motorcycle on the left shoulder and the rider on the eastbound side, where he was pronounced dead at the scene, "said 1st Lt. Mike Shaw" in a statement obtained by The Detroit News. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
The Detroit Free Press reported that the Detroit Regional Communications Center received multiple calls about the accident. A preliminary investigation by MSP Second District concluded that the motorcyclist was "traveling at a high rate of speed" when the crash occurred.
As the motorcycle season begins, Lt. Mike Shaw emphasized the importance of adherence to traffic laws for motorcycle operators, urging them to "be sure to wear protective gear, have an endorsement, and drive safely," as mentioned on Detroit Free Press.
