A disc golfer in North Knox County was brought to safety after taking a fall yesterday morning, as reported by WVLT. The incident occurred at Tommy Schumpert Park, near the 17th hole, which is approximately a quarter mile from the course's start. Although the injuries were not life-threatening, Rural Metro Fire had to intervene as the individual was unable to exit the course on foot.
Rural Metro crews responded, utilizing a wheeled litter to transport the injured party back to the start of the course. The specialized equipment, resembling a stretcher with a single wheel, enabled a smooth evacuation through the wooded terrain where the disc golfer fell. Rural Metro highlighted the unpredictability of emergencies, with a spokesperson saying, “You just never know when you could experience an emergency,” details WATE.
Witnessed by the surrounding wilderness, the Rural Metro Firefighters' commitment to ensuring safety and providing assistance in the park's less traversed paths is commendable. Photos taken during the rescue captured the practicality of the wheeled litter in action as it aided first responders in carrying out their duty. The importance of such equipment is often overlooked until moments of urgency present themselves, pointed out by 991 The Sports Animal coverage of the rescue.
