The prolonged jury selection process for Lori Vallow Daybell's second Arizona trial wrapped up with a panel of sixteen jurors ready to hear the case. The "Doomsday Mom," as she came to be known, will yet again stand before the court, this time in Maricopa County, accused of conspiring in the attempted murder of her niece's ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux. FOX 10 reported that the proceedings had been delayed due to Daybell feeling ill early in the week.
Despite her health concerns, Judge Justin Beresky of Maricopa County ordered Vallow's appearance in court for jury selection. According to 12News, Vallow Daybell communicated a range of symptoms from a "terrible headache, nausea, chills" to having difficulty speaking outside of the jury's presence. Yet, an MCSO representative stated there was no clinical reason for Daybell not to be in court.
The case traces back to October 2019 when investigators believe Alex Cox, Vallow Daybell's late brother, shot at Boudreaux. The shooting did not result in Boudreaux's injury but further entangled Vallow Daybell in questionable actions leading to several deaths, including those of her children and former spouses. This trial follows her conviction in Maricopa County for facilitating the fatal shooting of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow. She is currently representing herself and has been found guilty on other charges related to the deaths of her children and Tammy Daybell, her present husband's first wife.
In a courtroom update, 12News journalist Erica Stapleton noted that opening statements, which have faced delays, are now slated for this morning. With the jury set—comprising of eight men and eight women—the trial is expected to unfold over approximately two weeks. One juror, speaking with FOX 10, offered a glimpse into the gravity of the case: "It's intense. It's really intense," Tass Reed-Tucker said. "If they have no idea coming into it, they have no idea what they're getting into now."
