The third criminal trial of Lori Vallow Daybell, nicknamed the "Doomsday Mom," began with opening statements on Thursday, shedding light on charges of an alleged conspiracy to commit murder involving her late brother Alex Cox and targeting her ex-nephew-in-law Brandon Boudreaux. Daybell, facing a murder conspiracy charge out of Gilbert, is accused of enlisting the help of Cox in a botched attack where Boudreaux's Tesla was struck by gunfire in October 2019, as stated by a FOX 10 report.
With proceedings twice delayed due to the defendant declaring illness, finally, sixteen jurors, among whom one was excused due to a health concern, were seated to hear the case that ties into the string of tragic incidents in Idaho. Reflecting a pattern, Vallow Daybell chose again to represent herself in this trial, an approach she maintained in her previous one. In the tragic sequence of events, Daybell has already been found guilty of plotting the fatal shooting of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, in Chandler and the murders of her two children, Joshua "JJ" Vallow and Tammy Daybell, who was Chad Daybell's first wife. This information comes from a FOX 10 Phoenix article.
As the trial unfolded, Treena Kay, the prosecuting attorney, presented a vigorous narrative stating, "The evidence in this case will prove to you beyond reasonable doubt that this defendant conspired with Alex Cox and others to kill Brandon," she said, clearly seeking to establish Daybell's involvement in the alleged attack on Boudreaux. Daybell, during her own statement, countered with queries about the validity of the attack itself, mentioning, "Only Brandon claims that it did. Only Brandon names me and Alex," as per a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix.
During the trial, several objections were raised during Vallow Daybell's opening statement. Witnesses began testifying, with Detective Frerer from Gilbert PD providing evidence of gun ownership found in Cox's vehicle and examining projectile fragments connected to the shooting incident, which was not hindered by a juror, who was released early for the day, who found themselves ill. In a courtroom moment, as recounted by 12News, Boudreaux emotionally revealed the divorce from his wife, influenced by false allegations supposedly propagated by Vallow Daybell.
At this juncture, spectators and jurors alike are facing two potentially revealing weeks of testimony that could further unravel the dark events surrounding Vallow Daybell.
