A fatal shooting occurred last night in Brooklyn’s Canarsie neighborhood, leaving one man dead and another injured. Police responded to reports of an assault near Avenue L and East 94th Street at approximately 10:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head, who was later pronounced dead, and a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg, as reported by ABC7 New York.

The injured man was transported to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center and is said to be in stable condition. The 69th Precinct officers, who arrived at the scene near 9323 Ave. L, are currently searching for a suspect. However, no arrests have been made, and a description of the gunman has not been released. According to AM New York, the surviving victim has thus far been uncooperative with investigators.

Details about the incident continue to unfold as the New York Police Department presses forward with its investigation. The identity of the deceased has been withheld pending notification of family. This double shooting is part of a series of violent incidents in the area; however, NYPD data shows that shooting incidents in the 69th Precinct have declined slightly compared to the previous year.

The incident marks the second homicide recorded in the 69th Precinct in 2025. Earlier this month, a 42-year-old man was fatally shot near the intersection of Rockaway Parkway and Avenue N. Prior to yesterday’s shooting, the precinct had reported five shooting incidents this year, compared to seven during the same period in 2024. The name of the deceased will be released after the family has been notified.
