An egregious incident on Highway 85 could have resulted in disaster if not for the swift actions of a Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputy. Earlier this week, patrol officers were put to the test when a 40-year-old man, driving in a vehemently reckless manner, was intercepted while speeding the wrong way down the southbound lanes of the highway. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office detailed the series of events that led to the driver's arrest and lauded the deputy's effective measures in preventing what could have been a fatal incident.
The deputy detected the wayward vehicle between Highlands Ranch Parkway and Titan Road. Without a second to lose, the officer darted across the median, switched on the emergency lights, and notified dispatch, all standard protocol in such situations, yet executed here with the deft urgency demanded by the prospect of oncoming traffic facing a head-on collision. The sheriff's office reports that, even with sirens blaring, the driver attempted to evade authorities, only to eventually halt near Brandon Drive.
