In a tragic turn of events in Dover Township, Tuscarawas County, a husband and wife have been confirmed dead following a murder-suicide incident that occurred shortly before a graduation party on Sunday afternoon. Cleveland19 reported that, according to Sheriff Orvis Campbell, 64-year-old Robert Houston is believed to have fatally shot 53-year-old April Houston before taking his own life.
The shocking incident unfolded at the couple's home, located on the 2000 block of Gordon Rd., as they were preparing for a celebration. Witnesses inside the home heard gunshots, leaving the couple dead in their bedroom, with Robert on the bed and April nearby on the floor, as stated by Sheriff Campbell. Responding deputies arrived after the 911 call was made around 1:30 p.m.
An update from authorities clarified the victims' identities as 54-year-old James P. Murphy and 53-year-old Lisa M. Murphy, according to YourRadioPlace. Emergency responders transported Lisa Murphy to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton, where she was pronounced dead despite life-saving attempts. The Tuscarawas County Coroner's Office and the Stark County Coroner's Office are respectively investigating the causes and manner of James and Lisa Murphy's deaths.
Adding depth to the narrative, News 5 Cleveland conveyed that the 911 call was particularly disturbing, handled by a dispatcher speaking to the girlfriend of one of Houston's three sons. "She went inside to see what he needed for help and that's when the shots happened," Sheriff Campbell recalled regarding the moments leading up to the tragedy. The Houston's 18-year-old son, whose graduation party was about to start, was not home at the time of the incident.
