In a straightforward guilty plea, Kevin Enrique Sanchez-Carrillo, a 25-year-old Mexican national, has admitted his role in drug trafficking, firearm possession, and immigration violations. The case unfolded in the District of Utah, where Sanchez-Carrillo, who has been living in Draper, Utah, without legal permission, faced multiple charges following a targeted investigation. The original indictment came on April 8, with a subsequent felony information filed on May 20, leveling additional charges against him.
Sanchez-Carrillo's downfall began with law enforcement executing search warrants at his apartment and in his vehicle on April 3, during which they found a substantial quantity of heroin, a firearm, ammunition, and a wad of cash, all said to belong to him. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Sanchez-Carrillo has confessed to possessing the heroin with the intention to distribute it for monetary gain and acknowledged his restriction from owning the firearm due to his illegal status, which impacted interstate commerce.
Further details brought to light by the court documents reveal that Sanchez-Carrillo's illegal tenure in the United States dates back to December 14, 2023. Despite residing in the country for well over a year, he sidestepped immigration examination and remained unregistered with authorities until his arrest. His sentencing is slated for September 4 at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City.
