A driver has been arrested for DWI after speeding through a construction zone at 100 miles per hour on a stretch of highway where the posted limit was far lower. The incident occurred last Saturday night. The arrest took place on Highway 212 at the junction with County Road 36 in Benton Township, as confirmed by the Carver County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

According to the Carver County Sheriff's Office, the deputy on duty used radar to verify the vehicle's speed, which was initially clocked at a staggering 100 mph in a 60-mph construction zone, and later, the speed was locked at 98-mph on Radar. After conducting a traffic stop, the deputy reported signs of impairment in the driver's behavior. The driver failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST's) and a preliminary breath test (PBT) indicated a blood alcohol content (BrAC) of .194, an amount which is more than twice the legal driving limit, the sheriff's office detailed.

Fortunately, this high-speed episode did not result in any physical injuries. "Construction zones have reduced speed limits for the safety of both workers and drivers. Speeding and impaired driving put lives at risk. Please slow down, drive sober, and stay alert," cautioned the sheriff's office.
